The Pact

I read The Pact by Jodi Picoult. The Pact is a love story with a twist. The main character is Chris Harte. The book is about how Chris Harte and Emily Gold grew up together, how Emily's suicide committing changes everything.
It switches point of views, it goes from Chris to Chris's mom Melanie and to his dad James. It also goes from Emily to her mom and dad.
Two devastated families that don't know what really happened that night. The major conflict in the story is Emily didn’t want to move ahead in time, she didn’t want anything with her and Chris to change. She wanted to put the world on pause.
I loved the book because it's like a love book with a twist of mystery in it. There are some parts that make you cry, others that make you laugh, and some parts surprise you. I could hardly put it down. I think more teenage girls would like this book more then anybody else.

"You don’t love someone because they're perfect, you love them in spite of the fact that they're not"

"He began to trace a pattern on the table with the nail of his thumb. "She kept saying she wanted to keep things exactly the way they were, and that she wished she could stop everything from changing. She got really nervous, like, talking about the future. She once told me that she could see herself now, and she could also see the kind of life she wanted to have - kids, husband, suburbs, you know - but she couldn't figure out how to get from point A to point B."

  1. Your commitment to Picoult's books really makes me want to read them. I'm thinking of starting with Nineteen Minutes. Good choice?
